Heb. 2:1-4 NLT
4 So we must listen very carefully to the truth we have heard, or we may drift away from it. 2 For the message God delivered through angels has always stood firm, and every violation of the law and every act of disobedience was punished. 3 So what makes us think we can escape if we ignore this great salvation that was first announced by the Lord Jesus himself and then delivered to us by those who heard him speak? 4 And God confirmed the message by giving signs and wonders and various miracles and gifts of the Holy Spirit whenever he chose.
Yesterday I reviewed with you the truth from Hebrews 1 revealing God, speaking Himself to confirm that Christ is God-the-Son and was the creative force at work in God's creation. Continuing with that truth that began be revealing that Creator God is also Savior God and Redeemer for you and for me, we see more in Chapter two. We are cautioned against carelessness in how deeply we listen to God's Word because the consequence is to drift away. Human history, itself, testifies that fallen humanity always tends away from God rather than toward, in spite of God's Sacrifice on our behalf. There was a hint of severity of consequence for those who ignore God's great provision, mentioned previously. In Chapter two, the Hebrew writer was lead by God to make things very, very clear. In the end, there is no escape for ignoring God's great salvation.
Our faith in the message delivered by those whom God inspired to pass it down to us is the faith and trust we must show in God's provision for our salvation. It was confirmed in history and needs no further confirmation other than what the Holy Spirit does upon entering within us to establish the new creation in us. Is there anything important on your plate these days? Is it more important that eternity with God? Is there any priority in your life today that is greater than what God has prioritized for you? Why ever would anyone want to ignore God's great provision for salvation? It has to be pure insanity to do so. There seem to be lots of insane people around us but let's not get carried away with them. Hear the Lord calling you? If you have heard, help others to hear Him calling them too-- before it is too late!
